Life After Israel

Wow!

I just returned from supervising intramural basketball games in the gym here at TMC. This semester, I'm the assistant intramural coordinator. Fancy title, but it just means that I have to help my good friend (and groomsman in my wedding!) Brian Baughman organize, supervise, and delegate to facilitate a fun, competitive intramural atmosphere. So far it's been a lot of fun and has taught me responsibility. If I slack off, more than a two hundred people are affected.

One of tonight's games was discouraging and ridiculous. Guys from both teams were complaining at every single blow of the whistle. In total, two technical fouls AND two flagrant fouls were given out. One guy was ejected for throwing the ball at another guy's chest. Only by the Lord's grace did a fight not break out. Frankly, I'm disappointed in the guys' actions. But I'm not shocked. One of the things I've learned this year as an RA is not to be shocked at anything that we sinful humans do. This has also taught me to examine my own heart (Galatians 6:4) and to take the log out of my own eye (Matthew 7:3) before telling my brother to get the speck out of his own eye. Am I capable of doing the same things that I condemned tonight? Sure. Now, I would hope that I have enough self-control to not do that. I would pray that I would be filled with the Spirit and respond in a loving and Christ-like way. Now, this doesn't excuse the actions that occurred and it doesn't mean that people will be given grace. They will be held accountable for their actions and (let's call it like it is) their blatant sin. It saddens me when people act so horribly out of line to what they profess to believe. It grieves me when I act like that.

Sorry for the ranting and raving. Maybe I'll have a more encouraging post in the next few days.

Registries and Tuxedos

Quickly, Amy and I now have a website for our wedding. Visit it! Also, we're registered at Kohl's and Target . . . just in case you wanted to buy us stuff! On Sunday, Amy and I picked out all the tuxes for the wedding. It took about three hours, but everything worked out well. We'll be wearing three-button tuxedos. My vest and tie are satin ivory and my groomsman will have the same style jacket with a geometric-design periwinkle blue vest and tie. The ringbearer--Dan, Amy's brother--will match me. That's all for now.

I think this Nevada. Actually, it might be Oregon. Wherever it was, I thought it was just beautiful. Posted by Picasa

Brian was excited as we headed out for what turned into an 18-hour drive to his home in Caldwell, Idaho. Posted by Picasa

Go North, Young Man

So I'm in Caldwell, Idaho. I've been here since Saturday afternoon. Eighteen hours. That's how long our road trip from Santa Clarita, California to here took. That was a terrible sentence, but since it's 1:17 am, I'm not going to change it. We couldn't take the normal route (14 N to 395 N, 6 N or E, 95 N, etc.) because of snow. So we took the 15 through Las Vegas and then all the way up the 95. When we got here, Mr. Baughman (oh yeah, there's four of us: me, Brian Baughman, Nick Foy, Travis Dalton) told us that we could have taken the 93 and cut out at least an hour. Oops.

So what have we done? Well, I just lost at Texas Hold 'Em, most likely because I have no idea what I'm doing and therefore have no strategy. I also lost last night. But last night I stuck around until it was just me and Brian. The two times I've played have been the third and fourth times I've ever played, respectively.

We've slept a lot. I've slept on the foldout couch/bed in the living room both nights and plan on being there in another twenty minutes or so. Tomorrow, I don't know what we'll do. On Sunday, we went to church. I think the Baughmans' church is First Baptist Church of Caldwell. It was a very encouraging time of worship and preaching, followed by a grand Baptist potluck/birthday party for the pastor and his wife. Tonight, we watched Flightplan. It was pretty good. I'll give it a 7.5 out of ten.

Is this the most random and stream-of-consciousness post in the illustrious history of this blog?

Today was a lot of fun. I got to spend time with a friend that I hadn't seen in a while, Sally Glaze. Sally and I were freshman together at TMC. I got to eat dinner with her and then go back to her apartment and try to play with her almost-two-year-old daughter Jayden. It was a very encouraging, informative, and fun time of reminiscing.

Wednesday morning we leave for the Bay Area. Hopefully on Thursday we'll go to Alcatraz. OK, I'm done. Goodbye.

Oh, wait. Amy has wedding dresses. That's right. Two. Ask her.

Peace.
